Mirre Yayla Séur, Here is Never New. Never Knew.
Here is Never New. Never Knew is the first outcome of a current ongoing research around the dualistic nature of separation and recognition. In this series of works, Mirre questions how the body is a form that separates as a means to recognize. It questions the notion that we are known to ourselves while the exterior others are unknown.
The installation revolves around the verb to recognize. Recognition literally means to know again, to recall, to re-learn. It refers to a past action or encounter. By recognizing, a form of intimacy is created between strangers, it links an unknown history between both parties. Estrangement and familiarity are present in the same instant.
